I headed the team who set-up the academy in 2014, conceptualized, developed and initiated training programs for various municipal services including water, wastewater, and solid waste management. Since then, more than 500 engineers, supervisors, and staff have been trained.Project: Integrated Waste Management Facility (Mar. 2013 - Dec. 2019)I led the complete project cycle starting from market sounding survey of waste recycling industry to recovery and treatment system design, its cost estimates, tender package preparation, engaging consultants and contractors, project monitoring and control, and project completion. The facility handles 70,000 tons with 70% of resource recovery.Project: Solid Waste Management Master Plan Gujranwala (Jan. 2013 - Dec. 2015)With technical support from JICA, the project started with surveys including waste characterization, time and motion study, environmental and social assessment, condition assessment of existing transport fleet, financial and human resources. PESTEL framework was used for analysis resulting in development of long-term capital plan and annual operating budget. The project also included selection and design of a landfill.Project: Heatwave Management Plan (Sept. 2016 - June 2017)Karachi experienced a heatwave in 2016 costing almost 1000 lives. The government and development partners mobilized their resources to engage environmentalists and experts who could help them prepare a hazard alert system and management plan. I worked in collaboration with ESSA Technologies Pvt. Ltd. as project manager for primary data collection, stakeholder consultations and confirmation of vulnerability index. The recommendations of heatwave management plan were implemented by Metropolitan Corporation and a toolkit was developed as knowledge product.

The project included comprehensive cost estimation of system improvement such as upgrading collection fleet, transfer stations, zonal offices and workshop facilities. Garbage compactors, and mechanical sweepers and washers were proposed shifting from manual to mechanical tools and techniques.Project: Institutional Strengthening (July 2010 - June 2013)The period between 2010 and 2013 saw establishment of many corporate bodies within the public sector for service delivery of Solid Waste Management. These newly established companies needed support in terms of designing of research methodology for bottleneck analysis of Solid Waste Management. I along with my team of engineers and environmental scientists collected and analyzed data for the design of waste management systems in cities of Punjab. The objective was to improve the service delivery through change management, introduction of new technologies and injecting new management and machinery. Policy Papers: One of the aspects of working with government sector is the ability to show ones’ academic skills in preparing policy documents, reports, and papers. I produced several policy briefs, guidelines and manuals.
