Head Of German Language Examination / Certified Ösd Examiner / Volunteer Coordinator

Vhs Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur, Nepal

As Head of German Language Examination (Prüfungsvorsitzende), certified ÖSD examiner and Volunteer Coordinator at the VHS Bhaktapur, my tasks were diverse and very interesting. In addition to conducting language examinations in cooperation with the ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom), a big part of my work was quality management in regards to day-to-day German classes, development of products not directly related to German language (i.e. cultural introduction seminars for foreigners), as well as mentoring/training of local teachers and management of volunteers and interns. Some of my tasks at the VHS Bhaktapur were:- quality assurance before, during and after the exams as well as implementing changes in the examination routine if necessary;- communication and coordination with ÖSD headquarters in Vienna and ÖSD examiners at VHS Bhaktapur;- quality assurance of language classes, mentoring and on the job training of local German teachers (hereunder language classes (B2-C1), classroom supervision, development of a professional training within the field of DaF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache = German as a Foreign Language), exam preparation for C1 and continuous individual and group coaching);- management and coordination of interns and volunteers in the German language and DaF department: team leading, weekly meetings as well as planning and conducting cultural events and social media coverage with them; and- development of a strategy for recruiting new volunteers/interns, which included an update of the VHS' online presence: during my time there, the VHS started using instagram, revived its activity on Facebook and the website was updated to convey a more modern and professional image of the school. I also developed an Infopack for new interns and volunteers to be downloaded directly from the homepage. Finally, I designed a Volunteer Diary for them to jot down notes on daily activities and map out their learning experiences during their placement with us.

German Teacher / Certified Telc Examiner

Berlin-Området, Tyskland

Kapitel Zwei is a German language school in Berlin. I enjoyed the work here because it is very diverse - just like the students I got to work with on a daily basis - and I felt very much that my work was valued. Classes are organised to last 4 weeks, that means that my workplace basically changed every month and I got to meet a new class consisting of new people on a new level of German. During my time with Kapitel Zwei, I was teaching everything from A1 to C1 and was able to learn a lot and gain loads of valuable experience. In addition, I taught telc preparation classes on a C1 level and helped carry out the telc language tests on levels B1-B2-C1, during which I oversaw written tests and evaluated oral tests as a certified telc examiner.

Mar 2016 - Apr 2016

Intern

Aarhus

My responsibilities included writing blog posts for the C3 homepage, mostly on the specific questions addressed at different culture training sessions the company offers Danish companies and expat families on their way abroad or while planning an international cooperation: what are the most important (business and everyday life) aspects to be aware of when starting a business relation with i.e. a Chinese company or moving abroad? I analyzed surveys to extract the most important questions and interviewed the different country specialists in order to write the blog posts. Moreover I did a video customer case with a representative from Grundfos; I prepared the interview, filmed and edited.I gained insight into the daily work of the specialists while attending their culture training sessions. This was very exciting, because I got a deeper understanding of which cultural aspects both big and smaller Danish companies need to work with facing a globalized market.

Operator Assistant / Student Assistant

Risskov, Aarhus

This job allowed me to use my two first languages, German and Danish, on a frequent basis, while practicing my interviewing technique and adjusting to different emergency situations fast in order to help the client efficiently and professionally. I assisted clients of SOS International, who are members of the rescue insurance scheme "the red card scheme", which entitles them to roadside assistance while travelling abroad. The best thing about this job was working in an international environment while learning about how workshops and roadside assistance companies work in different (mostly) European countries. Also, it is satisfying to be able to help people in a situation, where they are stuck in a foreign country without any or little knowledge of the language.

Mar 2014 - Nov 2014

Intern

København

At the Danish Cultural Institute I worked with different tasks and different projects concerning the three key issues of culture and sustainability, art education (children and young people) and co-creation and innovation. All of these issues go very well with my interest in cultural exchange and -translation and cultural semantics: How do we define and explain culture – across cultural and language borders? My tasks included writing small articles and updating the DCI's homepage (dynamic web) in Danish and English; translation of the CICLO homepage from English to Danish; I gained valuable insights into fundraising of cultural projects (especially the CICLO project); I was responsible for working out a volunteer structure and a visual and communication strategy for the global sustainability/culture intitiative Culturefutures Clubs, as well as updating the Facebook and Wordpress site in Danish and English and, last but not least, planning and conducting events on sustainability and culture (see projects below). Finally, I was so lucky as to help during the Senegal-Denmark Cultural Rallye, where I could use my French and my enthusiasm for art and culture while assisting the Senegalese artists and musicians during their stay in Copenhagen and Aarhus. All in all, this was a great opportunity to widen my cultural horizon and learn about the Danish and, to a certain extent, the international cultural scene, and how we cooperate nationally and globally.

Scriptwriter, Scenographer & Director

Potemkin Film

Aarhus

Potemkin Film is a folk high school in Aarhus, where the students work in small groups producing short films. Everyone has his/her role in the process, which is highly characterized by creativity. For me, it was all about getting practical experience with storytelling and the creation of visual worlds, both as a scriptwriter, scenographer and director. Apart from that it was a great way of learning how a busy, creative workplace runs, how to plan all aspects of a project with a very short deadline and last, but not least, how important teamwork and structure is – apart from creativity.

The job consisted of guiding international students and professors, and help them with practical matters. Apart from that I updated the Facebook site and planned and ran different events of both informal and entertaining character.
