At Silver Spring Networks Chris leads the development of Wireless Networking Technology, Firmware, Hardware, SOCs, and Industry Standards development efforts. SSN provides state of the art, high performance communications network platforms for critical infrastructure.

Chris Knudsen is currently the Director of the Technology Innovation Center at Pacific Gas & Electric Company where he is responsible for developing new technologies to drive energy efficiency and Smart Grid Applications. Chris also leads the PG&Es industry standards efforts in these areas, chairs the UCAiug OpenSG Committee, sits on the NIST SGAC and IEEE P2030.

Chris is currently the CTO for Wireless Wide Area Networking standards & mobile performance labs within Intel’s Mobile Wireless Group. Chris initially joined Intel as CTO of the Broadband Wireless Division responsible for the development of WiMax. In his role at Intel Chris, is or has been responsible for: IEEE WWAN standards, WiMax technical direction, systems engineering and simulations, network architecture, mobile WiMax labs, over-the-air test and trial networks, and technical business analysis for WWAN.

Chris spent three years at Paul Allen’s Vulcan Capital focusing on early stage wireless investments including 802.11, 802.15, 802.16 technology, spectrum acquisition, as well as other proprietary wireless systems and technologies

Chris led Metricom’s Ricochet development as Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Ricochet was the first of its kind wireless wide area data network delivering data rates in excess of 200kbps/user. At Metricom Chris was responsible for the hardware development of the Ricochet technology including network base stations, wireless meshed routers, client devices, PC cards, and silicon.
