● Developed the first near real-time data mart to support the roll-out of a new policy issuance system. Updates are processed hourly and provide actionable metrics via interactive Cognos reports and dashboards to measure production and revenue. Continuous improvement is prompting operational and underwriting process evolution.● Migrated organization from Cognos 8.4 to Cognos 10.2.○ Converted approximately one hundred frameworks, 15,000 reports and twenty SDK projects written in Visual Basic 6.0. ○ Implemented an external agency portal that allowed secure access using SSL and LDAP to Cognos. This solution was used to allow direct access by agents to custom internal reporting thus eliminating the need for roughly half of the Cognos SDK projects and saving twenty four hours a month in labor costs initially used to generate and disseminate these reports.○ Due to the Cognos 10.2 SDK no longer supporting Visual Basic 6.0, converted remaining SDKs to Java using NetBeans.● Upgraded existing MS SQL 2005 environment to MS SQL 2012○ Migrated twenty separate data marts totaling approximately 1 TB in size.○ Rebuilt legacy Month End ETL system written in Visual Basic 6.0 in SSIS with enhanced quality checks, notification and roll-back capabilities.● Developed a three year plan for Business Intelligence in collaboration with IT and Senior Leadership to include :○ Data Governance■ Data Quality■ Metadata Management■ Reference Data Management○ Process Management○ SDLC Integration with IT

● Managed the transition of the Business Intelligence production support team for a 2.8B organization from an unstructured team of three employees to an onshore/offshore model. Moved the new team through a three month knowledge transfer of over 150 reports and 300 ETL jobs, go-live, and into a steady state. Implemented SLAs, 1st, and 2nd level support and communication standards.● Developed the first multi-star Cognos framework in Business Insurance supporting 800 data elements across eight stars with six canned reports and a self-service reporting environment. Two years later this environment is the most used Cognos environment in Business Insurance with over 40,000 hits per month.● Developed a field renewal tracking system in SQL and Excel to support the renewal workflow of 250 field underwriters. The tool tracked individually negotiated rates vs. initially priced renewal rates and the documented reasons for the variance. A dashboard tracked actuals to target which the underwriter used to gauge their upside / shortfall for the month. The tool has been very successful and is currently being upgraded to the Xcellcius platform.● Developed a claim trending analytic environment in SQL with interactive reports in Excel to support the actuarial team for a 1.5B product line. This change allowed for an increased frequency of loss ratio calculations and with that a clearer understanding of the current risk on our books. This project was so successful that the tool was later extended to cover an additional 400M product line and plans are in place to add an additional 600M product line.● Lead Designer and Subject Matter Expert in the construction of a flow data mart for Select. Drove the supporting IT organization and led their Senior Data Architect ensuring the resulting data mart met both the business and functional needs of our customers. Developed the majority of the semantic layer in the first five releases.

● Reconstructed a failing, critical reporting environment that supported four weekly and two daily datasets with an audience of 300 users. In one month, brought the fail rate from 50% to 5% and reduced weekly runtime from 24-36 hours to 8 hours.● Built a planning system in Excel (VBA) and SQL that supported revenue and expense planning with six product lines and 30 regions. Allowed for planning at a much more granular level of detail (agent vs. region) and along additional dimensions from the previous system.● Built a new business tracking system in Excel (VBA) and SQL that supported 600 field underwriting and sales personnel in managing their agencies. Submissions improved 43% in its 3 year tenure.● Constructed a series of three applications in Excel (VBA) and SQL that manage all renewal workflow. This included two rating systems that supported 60 pricing managers and a workflow management system that supported 500 field and service center personnel.

● Led a team of four employees with contractors for construction, telecom and move on a $450,000 budget. Doubled the size of a division office. Spearheaded the design and implementation of a new network supporting 100 local users for file sharing, print, security, and an additional 1500 users for voice. Finished early, under budget by 5% and received an award from the division president for performance.● Led project team of seven field unit managers with a budget of $500,000. Trained 177 field unit managers as installers and train the trainers over a five week period. Managed the upgrade of field accounting systems at 150 sites across New England, New York and New Jersey. Finished on-time and under budget by 30%.● Managed the monthly forecasting process for this organization. Forecasting was done at the District level and reviewed at each level of hierarchy. This was supported via a forecasting model that I developed and maintained. Provided supporting financials to CEO to enable the appropriate challenging / supporting of forecasts received. ● Managed the annual bonus process for 2000 personnel with bonus pools varying from $5M to $8M. Bonuses were calculated individually on gross profit performance, safety scores and customer satisfaction scores. They were later pro-rated based on the available bonus pool, determined by the division’s achievement of net income budgets for the year. All of the calculations and documentation were done in a model I built and maintained.● Managed the annual budget process for this organization. Revenue and field expenses were budgeted for 1700 individual field business units with results being rolled-up, adjusted, reviewed and approved at each level of hierarchy. This was supported via a planning system that I developed and maintained. Negotiated with corporate on rate allocations for administrative expenses, insurance and rebate credits (VDAs).
