The mission of the Policy Innovation Lab is to draw upon and convene the talents of students, professors, researchers, community leaders and activists to tackle urgent and emerging issues at the forefront of policy discussion and debate in the DC area, and to develop pioneering and forward-thinking solutions. The Lab's innovation process includes employing human-centered design thinking approaches to policy prototyping, community engagement, and a social justice and equity framework.As student Co-Director, I work with the Faculty Director to lead a group of about 20 students in these efforts.

The Department of Learning and Evaluation is committed to information transparency across the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago and helps guide strategic and operational decisions through the use of metrics. As part of a 10-month leadership development program, I completed capacity building projects within a local non-profit organization (After School Matters), received professional development training, and worked on a small team to complete a capacity building project with a community-based organization (Iraqi Mutual Aid Society). The training series included: project management, program evaluation, workplace communications, volunteer recruitment and management, and conflict resolution. My project with the Iraqi Mutual Aid Society involved developing a new teen program, engaging community members, and developing resources for existing programming.
