This allows me to constantly hone my skills in taking direction, projection, storytelling and articulation, in addition to keeping me very aware of the importance of adhering to contractual obligations and having a strong social networking presence.

I work directly with experienced trial attorneys and help the attorneys with a wide range of duties that prosecutors perform. These include: (1) victim and witness interviews and documentation of these in the prosecution file; (2) assistance with formal plea procedures; (3) trial preparation; (4) research and writing; and (4) assistance with jury selection and jury trials. I routinely accompany prosecutors to court to observe and help with court dockets, hearings, and trials. Having already received a temporary bar card, I have the opportunity to become more involved in trials and try cases with a supervised attorney.

Civil Practice Clinic

Served as a student attorney on the behalf of indigent clients in a wide variety of civil cases, including name changes, divorce, guardianships, domestic violence, will drafting, adoption, and probate.

Criminal Defense Clinic

Volunteered and provided free expunction services to indigent clients. Served as a defense attorney in a public intoxication case. Responsible for handling all legal aspects of the case from arraignment to trial. Conducted client interviews, performed legal research and fact investigation.

Mediation Clinic

Served as a trained student mediator to the Justice Courts in Harris County. Mediated consumer issues, landlord/tenant disputes and breach of contract cases. Served as a court-appointed mediator in small claims court. Provided training on the stages of the mediation process to the Houston Mexican Consulate-General.

Legal Intern for Children's Court Services. Tracked and monitored cases at various stages that involved children as either victims or witnesses, provided support to staff by updating cases and computer records, assisted with client correspondence, assisted with program evaluation, researched alternatives to face-to-face confrontation with perpetrators, and compiled and updated a spreadsheet of additional local resources for indigent domestic violence victims in need of shelter, mental health assistance or legal services.

This was an absolutely amazing retail and beverage service job that allowed me to connect with people from all walks of life over one shared bond; coffee. My responsibilities required me to appear neat and friendly, have impeccable punctuality and maintain a strict sense of organization (when you don't have an electronic product catalog, memorizing product prices and locations is a must). It also taught me the importance of first and last impressions. As a barista, when I worked the morning shifts there was a good chance that I was the first point of social contact that many people had for the day. Greeting my customers with a smile and a genuine desire for their well-being could color the filter with which they viewed the rest of their day. Alternatively, working the late night shift and making that just-before-closing experience a good one may determine whether someone goes to bed with a smile on their face. Working at Kitchens taught me to treat people as though I am the first and last experience they have that day.
