Optimized network’s gradient descent algorithm for more effective training and to improve the loss function. Network employed neuromorphic computer principles that mimic the systems of the brain and nervous system. Machinery for training parameters was built directly into hardware system to increase energy efficiency.

Partnered with Yale University’s Intelligent Computing Lab to develop a spiking neural network classification system by employing neuromorphic computing and artificial intelligence principles. Investigated performance of two difference coding techniques--rate and direct encoding--used to convert an image into a binary spike train. Compared classification accuracy and energy-efficiency of system to traditional artificial neural networks.
