Fresco Shades is a provider for custom-designed and built canopies, awnings, and blinds.Along with ad-hoc engineering work, my responsibilities were distributed amongst the factory, fabrics, and installation teams. By the nature of my role, I built solid experience working with multiple teams as well as autonomously.Details of my engineering projects: After identifying a process improvement opportunity, I successfully designed a program that generated optimized production cutting lists. Consequently, production experienced a significant reduction in waste generation.I designed part of a program that would reveal the sag on the front rail of any canopy. My role involved the fabrication, chemical treatment, quality control of metal components, and assisting in material organization. I also trained new teammates and took on the responsibility of the chemical treatment department for 2 weeks during the in-charge's absence.In our spare time, my teammate and I developed a design for a custom punching machine that reduces the time to fabricate glide tracks by 6 times the previous method. This involved beam calculations, and optimisation which was carried out using MS Excel.Fabricating involved:• Drilling steel and aluminium parts of various geometries.• Deburring aluminum parts.• Linishing steel components.• Interpreting engineering sketches.Cleaning and chemical treatment involved:• Checking quality of fabrication.• Acid-washing, rinsing, hanging, and heating components.• Removing adhesives and grease.Quality-control involved:• Inspecting metal components and reporting those with dents, concealed filings, insufficient powder-coating, or flawed chemical treatment.• Inspecting timber logs for significant evidence of twist.Organizing involved:• Offloading, sorting and storing new stock into inventory.• Loading fabricated/powder-coated components onto client-specific racks.Other responsibilities:• Trolley maintenance• Painting, applying wood filling, and sanding timber• Ad-hoc duties• Housekeeping
