About Laura Nickerson

People are surprised when they find out that I submitted a quilt as my Masters thesis, but I think that quilting as communication is a great metaphor for my approach when working with organizations that want to broaden their influence. Stitching compelling stories together with powerful experiences for learning and growth can create the spark that drives people to confront today’s complex environmental challenges. My projects have included tackling the problem of invasive plants in parks and working with community members to build a vibrant and engaged team of volunteers to rehabilitate public spaces; engaging students in immersive experiential learning opportunities that inspire action towards change; and mentoring high-performing, close-knit teams to support organizational success. I’ve had a lot of different jobs, in a lot of different sectors, but as I’ve stitched them together I’ve discovered that the common thread running throughout was a desire to bring people together to do good work. With empathy and an eye for detail, I work to make big problems feel small, and to identify the leverage points at which to engage in order to make change and see results. My skills:+ Relationship Building+ Communication+ Multi-stakeholder Project Management+ Experiential Education+ Facilitation+ People Management+ Community Engagement+ Thinking Creatively & Strategically+ Problem Solving
