Hi! I’m a Peabody Award-winning audio producer who’s been working in audio for two decades. I’ve produced live talk shows, long-form radio documentaries, daily spot news, features, podcasts, and theatrical sound design in both traditional and non-traditional settings. I specialize in podcast development and coaching. I created and run Louisville Public Media’s podcast incubator, focused on developing shows by and for marginalized people. I write a podcasting advice column and you can ask me a question there. I’m drawn to work that centers people who have traditionally been left out of mainstream media, creating spaces that allow them to tell and own their own stories.I love writing for the ear. I love building a team and learning what motivates them to be their best. I love helping people take their project from a script or a pile of tape to a compelling story. I love writing copy and making other people’s copy sharper. I believe in the transformative power of sound.I’m from Louisville, Kentucky, and I sound like it. I work mostly in and for my own community, but I also love to travel, both for work and play. My wife, Jonese, also works in audio, and we are nerds about it together. We live with an army of small dogs.I never use the word “final” in a file name anymore.

Laura Ellis has been a radio and audio producer with WFPL since 2004.In 2012, she co-created a weekly podcast called 'Strange Fruit,' focusing on race, gender, and LGBTQ issues. Laura produced Strange Fruit for its first 200 episodes, when she handed over the reins to the show's two hosts. Currently, Laura produces WFPL's 'Curious Louisville' series, an audience-engagement-driven project answering questions about the city, and continues to work on radio features and oversee the overall podcast strategy at WFPL. In 2017, Laura produced a Peabody-Award-winning podcast called 'The Pope's Long Con,' an investigative piece by the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, examining the life of Kentucky State Representative Danny Ray Johnson.She was awarded an RTNDA Unity Award in 2012 for her work on 'Defining Fairness,' a nine-part series about diversity and racism within Louisville's LGBTQ community. She was part of a Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting team awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2013 for 'The Man With Many Chances,' which revealed systemic failures that allowed a serial criminal to murder a 17-year-old girl. In 2017, Laura was embedded for a week at the Kentucky State Fair, for an audience-engagement project called 'Fairly Curious.'Laura is a lifelong resident of Louisville, Kentucky.
