About Lauren Phillips

As an outdoor safety professional and someone who loves adventure, mentoring, and facilitating, it seemed like a natural fit to open OVERhang over a decade ago - it's an adventure education center and indoor climbing gym! I'm excited to be growing my business and mentoring other entrepreneurs. In the past few years, I've focused on partnerships with remote First Nations communities - their traditional knowledge combined with the wilderness safety skills and fieldwork skills I introduce, in turn create excitement, renewed enthusiasm for traditional activities, and open up new employment opportunities.I will continue to seek ways to contribute to building the concepts of community, self-growth, teamwork, and personal responsibility - be it in the worlds of corporate leadership, outdoor safety, or project management. My work with UNBC instructing in the Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM) program is rewarding as always, as is my instruction of Rope Rescue for the JIBC, swiftwater and ice safety/rescue through Rescue Canada, and Wilderness First Aid through SOLO.I'm looking forward to more river and mountain adventures for work and play.
