About Leanne Howe
I am finishing work on a 56-minute film, Searching for Sequoyah for pubic broadcast in 2021. I have a new book out Savage Conversations, 2019. Coffee House Press. Savage Conversations is about Mary Todd Lincoln and the Savage Indian she said was cutting her face every night in 1875. An enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, born and raised in Oklahoma. I write short fiction, poetry, screenplays, scholarship, and plays that deal with American Indian experiences. The author of two award-winning novels, a book of poems, screenwriter for two film documentaries, and a playwright. I've appeared in 2007 on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show on Comedy Central in a news segment about sports mascots titled, Trail of Cheers. I'm afraid this might be the pinnacle of my career.] Currently, I'm the Eidson Distinguished Professor in American Literature in the Department of English at the University of Georgia, Athens.
