I am a trusted advisor to the motor fuels and biofuels industry with over 15 years of experience. I help my clients navigate the complex web of federal and state excise taxes, credits and registrations and keep abreast of the latest legislative and judicial developments. I also advise on matters related to trade and customs and international trade as they relate to the fuel industry.My focus includes federal and state tax and trade matters associated with trading crude oil and refined petroleum products. For example, I advise and consult on federal and state excise taxes, including federal and state registrations, federal and state motor fuel excise taxes and environmental fees, federal biofuel tax credits as well as taxes and fees due on importation, including oil spill fees. My experience includes advising clients on matters relating to importing crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels into the United Sates, as well as trade preference programs, Foreign Trade Zone issues and issues resulting from the Jones Act rules regarding coastwise trade. In addition, I advise clients on U.S. trade and foreign policy, such as issues related to obtaining export licenses from the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security, compliance with the foreign assets control programs applicable to U.S. persons, extraterritorial sanctions laws and antiboycott laws.I represent all sectors of the fuel and renewables industry from major oil producers, to wholesale distributors of fuel, to producers and distributors of renewable fuels. My clients own assets such as refineries and terminal, inventory such as gasoline, diesel and biofuels and retail facilities. My clients cover the upstream, midstream and downstream industry participants.
