Work within the IT Network team supporting Core enterprise network infrastructure which includes WLAN, Remote Sites, Switches, Routers and Firewall. Ensuring that the network meets the ever changing demands of the enterprise. Ensure that all systems are up to date and are protected from security breaches and misuse as, Support the Colleges national and international students aswell as ensuring staff have cutting edge technology at their disposal, Liaise with contractors and 3rd party support teams to ensure enterprise operations are always online.

A customer-focused role that involves providing 1st/2nd line support with a major focus on supporting the network support team. This makes me responsible for 50 virtual/physical servers including server maintenance, configuration and management of MS Exchange/Active directory user accounts as well as network services such as DNS and DHCP. This also includes network setup, configuration and associated maintenance of a 50 switch corporate network infrastructure that includes WiFi and VoIP services across multiple remote sites and also help with the management of the company’s backup procedures. I am required to provide IT Training of newly implemented systems to new and current staff which currently stands at over 250 employees.This role also includes the maintenance, administration and configuration of the company’s mobile provision that includes 700+ iPads, 100 Nexus tablets and 250 Windows tablets provided to allow for a mobile workforce and learning experience for both staff and students.

My responsibilities were to assist the lecturers in the Engineering and Technology department with setting up labs for the students this could range from setting up Servers to creating a network of PC’s down to practical labs of setting faults on the PC’s for the students. I was also responsible for the maintaining of the Network within the department as well as the updating of the workstations and that they were functioning, also installing the latest software and any specialist software needed on the machines. I was also in charge of managing the simulators and CNC Machines within the department. Also having to install Cat5e network cables in the IT rooms and connecting them up to the corporate network, I was also responsible for the Cisco and Microsoft labs that we have ensuring that they are always operational and applying all the required updates onto the systems. I was then promoted to a new role within the organisation which is now working in the ICT & e-Learning Department supporting the network for the whole organisation which involves me with 1st/2nd line support calls which involves the deployment of the latest Operating Systems, Setting up printers, Installation and Configuration of all hardware and software within the organisation as well as maintaining the desktops and troubleshooting. I am also dealing with suppliers, communicating with third-party vendors and escalating jobs to 2nd/3rd line support team, also the creating and editing of technical documentation for the IT Systems that we have put in place.Alongside my IT duties during the 6 years of working at South Tyneside College I have also supervised the students practical assignments which involved not just supervising but also training them on how to setup, configure and troubleshoot peer-to-peer networks.As well as how to set up and secure a PC along with showing them how to diagnose and repair common PC problems and also installing and configuring common peripherals.
