Programme Manager - Joint Working
Gp It Programme Manager
Project Officer
As a Digital Project Officer in the GP IT team, my primary responsibility is to support the GP IT operating model by managing the development, release, and implementation of the Digital Primary Care Maturity Assurance module. This module gives a national view of how individual GP surgeries are compliant with the guidelines set out in the GP IT operating model. This information can be aggregated up to CCG, DCO, Regional, and ultimately national level in order to inform commissioners as to where best to dedicate resources. A large part of project management is ensuring effective communication between key stakeholders at all levels. This requires me to constantly be aware of what tasks each member of the team is responsible for, and to ensure they have the support that is required in order to fulfil their role. It also requires me to keep senior management up to date with any developments, and any risks or issues that require escalation. In order for me to be effective in this, I am required to have in depth specialist knowledge best practice in project management (as laid out in Prince2 and MSP methodology). I have also been required to attend events and conferences and speak at length about the assurance module with interested parties and stakeholders. This has required me to communicate highly complex ideas to large groups of people, some of whom find the information to be contentious. This role has taught me much about the digital technology landscape within NHS general practice. Especially with regard to what is classed as “core and mandated” within the GP IT operating model. It has also helped me to understand how all the national programmes (GP2GP, SCR, GPSoC, eReferrals, EPS2, etc) tie together in order to provide greater efficiency and flexibility within NHS Primary Care.
