Manager, Drainage Operations South Eastern Water Conservation & Drainage Board (Sewcdb)
Department For Environment And Water Jan 2015 - May 2022
Limestone Coast (South East) Of South Australia- Millicent
As manager of the South Eastern Water Conservation and Drainage Board (SEWCDB), there is a proud history extending back to 1861 when George Goyder first proposed a drain network to promote primary production in the South East. I am employed by the Department for Environment and Water -assigned to the SEWCDB. The drain network is now over 2500 kilometres in length. No longer is the drainage network about draining the land but it is about hydrating the land and rejuvenating the environment by directing flows to wetlands, groundwater systems and to the Coorong. My responsibilities include SEWCD Board governance, implementing a flow management strategy, managing assets, landholder and community engagement and managing 15 employees. I have recently revised our Management Plan (out for public consultation), have developed the SEWCDB's first Operational Plan for 2015/16 and updated for 2016/17. I am currently focusing on the asset management for nearly 2000 bridge and weir structures, and improving organisational culture ( focus on HR and WHS). This position requires managing a balance to maintain a hydrated landscape with the amelioration of wetlands, whilst ensuring landholders improve agricultural productivity across the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. I work closely with Government agencies to boost opportunities for asset upgrades (bridges, weirs, monitoring stations, and land parcels) and engage with landowners, community people, and contractors to provide this support on behalf of the Board.
