The URSCO is also dedicated to helping faculty become increasingly effective with mentoring undergraduate research and integrating research skills into courses and curricula. Coordinate research opportunities at a large metropolitan public university Collaborated with the Office of Research and Engagement and faculty to secure external funding aimed at increasing student diversity and success in STEM and Humanities, at over $9 million to date Co-Developed, -implemented, and -directed programs for S-STEM, MARC and U-RISE; advised programs for McNair, Transforming the Humanities, and LSAMP Organize and host campus-wide celebration of research and creative inquiry Expanded the Undergraduate Research and Creativity Award Developed a Student Travel Award program Co-developed the Research Fellows Program to attract high achieving high school students Initiated measures to integrate research and research skill development throughout the curriculum through Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences Student Development Program: including proposal development, abstract writing, responsible/ethical conduct in research, presentation tactics, etc. Faculty Workshops to enhance the mentoring of undergraduate research Established the Thomas Undergraduate Research Mentor Award in 2013 to recognize faculty for engaging students in experiential learning through research Coordinate with University Communications to tell student stories Established and Chair the URSCO Leadership Committee Campus Representative for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation Reconstituted the UNC System-wide Undergraduate Research Directors Council in 2015 and served as Chair through 2017
