Secondment to run the team to cover maternity leave

As the operations manager of a mini-cask and single-trip keg filling line, I am accountable for delivering the weekly production plan, on time, on cost and within strict quality specifications. My three rotating shift teams are accountable for a majority proportion of the UK ale mini-cask market. The role involves liaising with other departments for the delivery of component parts, planning shift patterns to best deliver optimal output and ensure the plant is in a condition to fulfil all orders. I am responsible for investigating and responding to customer queries and complaints and I am in regular contact with suppliers and contract customers on all matters regarding these products. This includes driving innovation and new product development with internal customers and suppliers.Since starting on the production line I have implemented several improvement plans including CIP and sterile filter optimisation, as well as delivering a complete HACCP plan. This line is BRC grade A accredited, and I am involved in site audits throughout the year.I am responsible for overseeing the site pest control contract and working with the pest control contractors to eradicate and prevent pest problems within the restrictions of the site quality system.

As a warranted officer, I carried out high level investigations, enforcement action and specialist evidence gathering on serious and organised environment crime cases. I had my own case load as well as working on large scale team investigations in which I worked towards the best environmental outcome or successful prosecution. I worked closely with the police and other agencies on operations like the Metal Theft task force and scrap metal dealer’s days of action.

I regulated a number of waste and water sites in the West Midlands, offering advice and guidance on environmental issues with reference to the environmental permitting regulations and water resources act. Another aspect of the role was investigation and prosecution of pollution incidents or breaches in environmental permits. During large scale incidents our office would become the Midlands Incident control room to coordinate the response. I was an information officer utilising my ARC GIS skills, as well as my wide knowledge base, to inform the incident command of changes on the ground.

I carried out management reporting for internal and external customers. This included weekly board reports on environmental performance and KPIs, and Quarterly feedback to internal departments. For external customers, I completed reports like the Environment Agencies Pollution Inventory, as well as quarterly reports to OFWAT and other government agencies. One of the many tasks was to produce maps with graphical data on them using ARC GIS software.

I managed a small team of assistant biologists and the biology laboratory. I conducted biological monitoring, analysis & reporting of samples from Rivers, Reservoirs, Supply Network, Water Treatment and Sewage plants. My role involved excellent communication with site managers to improve and resolve problems.

As a technical expert for the sewage treatment function of the company, I investigated problems and advised works mangers on solutions. In some cases, I would take the plant into my own care in order to resolve issues. This would involve renovation works or putting forward business cases for CAPEX projects. I also commissioned several works, following the building phase of capital projects.

As a technical expert for the drinking water treatment function of the company, I investigated problems and advised works mangers on solutions. I also advised on chemical usage and carried out trials for plant optimisation. Used my background as a biologist I was able to advise on issues such as algal blooms or macro invertebrate issues.
