An accomplished and highly motivated Trainee Solicitor with strong exposure to the legal and litigation environment, with both theoretical and practical knowledge in relation to many fascinating legal issues.I am a Trainee Solicitor at The Jonathan Lea Network, a forward-thinking, innovative and fast-growing law firm headquartered in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. I am developing my legal knowledge and skill-sets to achieve my long-term goal of becoming a qualified practising solicitor. As such, I shall be undertaking the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) in 2024.I currently assist with a wide variety of legal matters, including M&A transactions, SEIS/EIS tax relief applications, general corporate matters, and litigation / dispute resolution.I have a strong grasp of human rights law and I have assisted with some legal cases relating to Covid-19. I wrote my Master's thesis on the tort of negligence, namely the step-changes made by the Supreme Court’s decision in Montgomery v Lanarkshire Health Board [2015] UKSC 11 to informed consent law in the United Kingdom. I evaluated further changes that could be made to the law to bring about the introduction of 'free-standing' informed consent claims, which would mean that an informed consent claim in negligence could be brought, even if no harm has been suffered by the patient - their mere loss of patient autonomy would suffice. I further considered the hurdle of causation, notably the implications of the Supreme Court's decision in Khan v Meadows [2021] UKSC 21, and whether it would be pertinent to shift the burden of proof in informed consent cases onto the defendant, to disprove the negligence (on the balance of probabilities), or even impose strict liability on the defendant in such claims.Leveraging on my rapidly expanding portfolio of legal knowledge and related skills, in 2021 I successfully supported complex British National (Overseas) visa cases whilst working at KCL Legal Clinic, to support those in Hong Kong.I have also been privileged to hold the role of CLOCK Legal Companion whilst studying at the University of Brighton, where I supported litigants in person at the Brighton County Court Family Centre in a McKenzie friend capacity. I volunteered to assist litigants in person with a variety of complex legal issues, often helping with court paperwork, attending court hearings and CAFCASS meetings, or signposting litigants to the most appropriate places to find support, where necessary.I am an articulated communicator with excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.
