As president of a leading television representation company, we handle the national advertising for 800+ local television stations throughout the U.S. We transact, negotiate and place advertising media dollars for national advertisers who target consumers for brands. I’m a broadcast brat. My father ran a local TV station and I learned the trade shadowing him as he worked. I vividly recall watching the CBS evening news with him. To say that TV is in my DNA would not be a stretch. My core clients are, in fact, people like my father. And my mentors were C-level leaders at other broadcast representation firms. I learned from the best. What made them good leaders was they had street smarts, took care of their teams, and were effective communicators. It's about forging relationships with your client partners. At the end of the day, when your team wins, you win. To lead a multi-generational workforce you need to understand where everyone is as a diverse group. Individuals should be communicated with differently. I believe people crave input. The ability to provide feedback, on a regular basis, is key to helping my people grow their careers. My strength is I’m constantly learning and evolving. Even after 36 years in the industry I keep abreast of all the change that’s taking place, especially in the past decade, for all media.Two of my mantras are: You need to be a “student of the game,” and “there is no finish line.”Reach out to connect.
