I am an associate professor at the University of South Florida. Research in my lab seeks to understand how biogeochemical cycles of organic matter, carbon, and nutrients interact with the hydrological cycle, biological diversity, and human decision-making. Much of this research occurs in freshwater and tidal wetlands, and in urban socioecosystems. Students drive much of the research, so the precise topics of study are shaped by their interests, which evolve as students graduate and new ones join the lab.My own professional activities are varied, as I run a research lab, mentor graduate students conducting research for their MS and PhD degrees, provide research opportunities for undergraduate students, write grant proposals and scientific publications with my interdisciplinary colleagues in social and biogeosciences, teach a variety of ecology and environmental science themed courses, perform administrative services for my institution, and participate in outreach to the local and regional community.
