I was hired to design and build a device to automate the process of dispensing specific volumes of water. Previously, if a large container needed to be filled, someone would have to stand by to monitor the filling. My device allows the user to enter a specific volume of water using buttons, and the device will then actuate a solenoid valve to dispense the desired volume.Similar devices exist, but they often don't measure the flow and simply rely on a timer. This would not have sufficed, as the water pressure varies depending on your location on the farm. Therefore a time-based device would not give repeatable results.I designed and built this device independently which involved research, component sourcing and ordering, assembling, soldering, programming, calibrating, and testing.

I was hired to design a device which would increase energy efficiency on the farm. The farm has several greenhouses which consist of a metal skeleton with two layers of thin plastic for the walls. The gap between the sheets of plastic is inflated using an electric blower, which runs constantly. In the summer, the greenhouses don't need to insulate; they merely act as a shelter. Therefore the plastic walls could be deflated to reduce electrical power consumption. However, when there's windy weather, the plastic can tear. My special project was to design a device that would measure the current wind speed and turn the blower fans on or off accordingly. The device utilized an Arduino microcontroller, an LCD interface, and a custom PCB.

My responsibilities included guarding the pool during recreational swims, instructing swimming lessons to children aged 0-14, planning lessons, creating report cards, and maintaining certifications.
