I lead a range of research projects including the Science Education Tracker, a nationally representative survey of young people in England. Over 4,600 young people aged 11-18 took part in the research, sharing their attitudes towards and experiences of science education and STEM careers. Follow up research into the young people’s experiences of Covid-19 and Lockdown is currently underway.

I led a mixed-method UK wide evaluation of Wellcome’s Primary Science Campaign to track and evidence progression towards improving the quality and quantity of science taught in primary schools. I also worked as part of the project team developing Explorify, a free digital resource to help primary school teachers teach science.

Working in the Insight and Analysis team I used a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to gather evidence to understand the impact of Wellcome Trust funding. This evidence was also used to inform Wellcome's strategic aims and funding strategy. I specialised in evaluation and social research with a keen interest in health and education.In my role I carried out a number of tasks including:• Project managing a range of scheme reviews and evaluations• Designing surveys and carrying out interviews and focus groups• Advising other Wellcome Trust teams on putting research out to tender• Supporting the Wellcome Trust Education and Learning team with a range of bespoke evaluations and research projects

I provided support to the Evaluation Team on a variety of projects which included: designing and carrying out surveys, data analysis, report writing and feeding into a range of team based projects such as the Wellcome Trust Basic Science and Clinical Career Trackers.

I worked on two projects, one commissioned by Nike looking at inactivity in young people and the health benefits of sport for young people which was published as a report titled ‘Move it: Increasing Young People’s Participation in Sport’. The report received publicity from the BBC and the Guardian, and was launched by Mo Farah following the 2012 London Olympic Games. I also worked on a project funded by the National Lottery exploring the experience of old people’s care.

Whilst at school, I undertook work experience at Goldsmiths College which gave me an insight into different research methodologies. I shadowed interviews regarding Sure Start Sport, a programme encouraging young people to stay out of crime, and the regeneration of the Peeps Estate. I carried out bibliographic and online research as preparation for meetings and on behalf of the head researcher.
