Thesis: Development and Application of New Approaches for Studies of Influenza- Induced Inflammation and DNA Damage.-Investigated significance of DNA damage and repair in mouse model of H1N1 Influenza infection. Discovered that viral infection induces DNA double strand breaks and elicits DNA repair pathways during inflammation-mediated viral clearance and tissue recovery. Findings were published in Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences.-Intellectual and experimental contributions in subsequent studies of pulmonary genotoxicity in animal models of asthma and bacterial pneumonia.-Collaborated with scientists from Yale University to explore the use of a pH-specific peptide for targeting inflamed lungs during influenza infection. Findings led to a first-author publication in Future Microbiology.
