In this role, I am responsible for business development and project management of the firm’s projects in the areas of economic policy and strategy (including trade and regional integration, industrial and private sector development, macroeconomics and finance). I also provide technical input and support to projects related to trade and regional integration, such as economic and regulatory impact assessment of regional integration agreements.

The International Growth Centre (IGC) aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research. Based at LSE and in partnership with Oxford University, the IGC is initiated and funded by DFID. As In-Country Economist, I manage the IGC Rwanda Growth Programme, based on four areas: agriculture, infrastructure, trade and industry and finance/macro.

Main areas of interest: regional integration and trade; liberalization of trade in goods, services and competitiveness; free movement of people; Non-Tariff Barriers; East African Community Common Market and its implementation.Main research activities focused on the economic dimension of regional integration. Specific researches included Uganda’s comparative advantage in the East African Community; the development of Uganda’s tourism sector; the impact of liberalisation on Uganda’s labour market; impact of the Single Customs Territory and others. Coordination and support activities: organisation of several events including, among others, a national workshop on the potential of Ugandan’s tourism sector in the East African Community; a Strategy Workshop on the Common Market Implementation and the Launch of the Common Market Implementation Plan.Other activities: monitoring the implementation of the Common Market; participation to regional meetings; preparatory work for regional conferences as well as attendance to the negotiations.

Coordination and support activities: organization of the FAO-IFAD-ILO Workshop “Gaps, trends and current research in gender dimensions of agricultural and rural employment: differentiated pathways out of poverty”.Main research activities: review of papers presented for the FAO-IFAD-ILO Workshop; research on rural youth employment and child labour; research of training resources for children and youth living in rural areas.
