Account Manager

Fitchburg, Wisconsin

As an account manager at Terso Solutions, I am lucky enough to spend my days interacting with amazing partners and customers in the technology, health care and life sciences space. There is so much to learn in this exciting industry, and the good thing is that will never change given the pace it is moving and the continuous growth of our organization. One of the things I love best about this role is managing the details and being able to interact with every department to make things happen! Sometimes (ok almost all the time), it takes a village to complete a project, and being in client services puts us in the middle of it. Thank goodness I love talking to people and working in a group, because so far that has been a central component of my role. And, it helps of course that everyone here is awesome.

Senior Manager - Financial Recruiting

Madison, Wisconsin Area

Recruiting was more than a job for me; it was my passion. When I look back on my life, it makes perfect sense that this would be a critical step in my career. From that early networking experience I mentioned below to recruiting track and field athletes for my college team, it seems I was working my way toward this profession for a long time. I loved building relationships with accounting professionals at all levels and helping them get in touch with people they wouldn’t have access to otherwise. I spent a lot of time listening to what my candidates were looking for so that I could help them advance in their careers. I worked equally hard to understand my client’s company culture so that I could help them find the best addition to their team.I’m not a doctor, and I don’t save lives, but I’ve seen how the right job can change someone’s life for the better. I am grateful for the experience I received at Baker Tilly. It was an incredibly fulfilling way to spend my days.

Personal Fitness Professional

Orange Shoe Personal Fitness

Madison, Wisconsin Area

Health and fitness have been part of my life since I was young, so when I was looking for a way to build more client interaction into my career, I contacted the owner of Orange Shoe about joining their team. Working as a personal fitness trainer gave me a chance to connect with people from a variety of careers and at all levels of an organization. I quickly got comfortable talking with just about anybody and I learned the value of personal relationships, networking, and building a professional team.Besides whipping my clients into shape, I helped Orange Shoe add additional services including corporate wellness, postural assessments and train-the-trainer fundraisers. The interesting thing about building individualized training programs for clients is that it ends up not just impacting their physical well-being, but it improves their mental and emotional well-being, too. This taught me another valuable lesson about how interconnected the different parts of our lives are; improve one area, and the others often follow.

May 2010 - Jun 2011

Senior Accountant

Madison, Wisconsin Area

Baker Tilly Virchow Krause was a great first job out of college. I focused on the tax side of the business and worked primarily with the manufacturing and distribution team. Unlike school, where I learned that everything was black or white, in the real world I realized there could be more than one right answer to every question. Or, to be more specific, there was more than one way to interpret tax law. I enjoyed researching those interpretations and finding solutions for my clients. In a way, that research wasn’t so different from what I do now as a recruiter. Sometimes a client has a very specific candidate profile in mind, and I like to dig a little deeper and give them access to people they may have originally overlooked.Ultimately, I found that the days I enjoyed the most were spent visiting my clients and learning about their business, recruiting future team members for Baker Tilly, and mentoring staff. Big clues as to what my future held.

Intern - International Assignment Solutions

Pwc

Greater Chicago Area

I was fortunate to be offered an internship at PwC’s Chicago office during busy season. We worked some crazy hours, as anyone who’s worked in public accounting knows. I’m still not sure how I completed 150 expatriate tax returns in four months. But as those in public accounting also know, there’s nothing like the camaraderie you build with like-minded colleagues when you’re all working together toward the same goal. We might have worked hard during the day and well into the evening, but we also had a lot of fun hanging out together when the workday was done. In fact, I have my Japanese counterparts to thank for introducing me to sushi.PwC was a great company to work for and I planned to join their Chicago team after graduation until I realized that I just couldn’t leave Madison behind. On-campus interviewing was long over, so I took matters into my own hands and called all the public accounting firms in Madison that I thought I’d want to work for. I found my home at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause.
