The New York Education Policy Leadership Program (EPLP) is a unique, yearlong professional development experience open to school administrators, board of education members, leaders of education organizations, and Fordham Graduate School of Education students with an interest in education policy and related issues. The program explores timely education policy and leadership issues at the macro, strategic level through immersive experiences and virtual, interactive sessions. The core of the program is monthly half-day virtual policy seminars. These sessions include seminar-style lecture/discussion with prominent professors and guest speakers working in the education policy and leadership arena. Fellows also participate in two in-person, multi-day trips: Regional Leadership Forum at the Gettysburg Battlefield and Army War College in Carlisle, PA; Washington DC Policy Seminar that includes sessions with education think-tank experts and influencers of education policy representing a broad range of perspectives. The AEPLP Consortium offers a year-long hybrid program (Six Zoom sessions & Washington DC Symposium) for up to 35 Senior Fellows from seven states.AEPLP Goals:1. To advance to the strategic level the knowledge and skills acquired previously in state-level education policy programs.2. To nurture and expand networking relationships among senior fellows across the Consortium states.3. To increase awareness of, and engagement with, education policy initiatives, and implementation practices in the Consortium member states.4. To better understand the complexity of school district (LEA), state, and federal education policy development, implementation and impact.5. To enhance strategic leadership skills and develop the political sophistication necessary to successfully influence policy development, adoption, and implementation at the local, state and national levels.
