I am a basic Occupational Therapist that believes in pt's taking responsibility for their program. I abhor e stim, ultra sound, hot packs, etc. as they are effective for awhile but they have no proven long term lasting results and the pt is unable to do it @ home so there is no continuity!That being said, I am an aggressive OT that deals w/ the entire body bc I assess any psycho social issues that might interfere w/ a pt's recovery process, as well as their physical restoration.I tend to deal w/ acute and chronic elbow, forearm and hand issues. Currently, I treat many post surgical issues - i.e. burns, tendon and nerve lacerations, elbow/forearm/wrist and hand fractures, I&D's, snake bites, etc whereby I may fabricate specialized splinting when necessary. But, I use splints on a conservative basis. On the other "hand", w/ cumulative illnesses, such as tendonitis, CTS, etc., I DO NOT use splints and aggressively mobilize the extremity towards a full recovery vs any type of delayed situ. Splints may be appropriate w/ night wear as we all sleep in a flexed position.My pts are treated 1on 1. The 1st Eval lasts 1 hr and follow ups are 30 minutes. I do not use assistants bc I believe that each and every person is there for MY full attention for mobilization, MFR, etc and they perform their HEP on their own time. I assure my pt's that they will see me every visit. My pt's have a life and they need to use their arm, hand, etc., accordingly to fulfill their ADL independence.
