As Assistant Vice President of Medical Education and Physician Development, I lead a number of medical education initiatives and centers across the professional development continuum and throughout Carolinas HealthCare System. Responsibilities include graduate medical education accreditation and curriculum development at the flagship sponsoring institution, as well as physician leadership development and simulation-based education across the enterprise. I provide on-going curricular renewal strategies to enhance the process of educational quality assurance in medical education. I also lead the dually accredited simulation and surgical skills centers. As the current and founding director of the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Center for Physician Leadership, my teams and I provide guidance and expertise to faculty and non-faculty physicians. I serve as the Associate Designated Institutional Official for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and hold the faculty appointment of Associate Professor of Medical Education at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine. I support curriculum and faculty development at the UNC regional campus in Charlotte and engage in scholarship that contributes to the empirical and conceptual literature in evaluation and assessment of clinical performance.
