My latest role as a full-time academic teaching at the University of Western Australian in the Doctor of Optometry postgraduate program has allowed me to combine my personal and professional skills to support the development of future optometrists . My teaching encompasses the professional knowledge and skills required in optometry including business and financial management, communication, leadership, mental health and wellbeing.In my 30 years experience as an optometrist, I have been involved in practice ownership, specialty contact lens fitting, service within professional bodies, mentoring, as well as professional consulting and coaching.At 25, I became the first female partner and director of one of WA’s most established and respected Optometric practices. Over 20 years, this business grew to encompass 7 locations and over 50 staff. Late in 2010 I sold out of the partnership to pursue a career in professional coaching and consulting - working with individuals and businesses. In 2021, an optometry program was established in Western Australia to provide much-needed vision care to the local and remote communities in our state.
