Sole full time Human Resources staff member at an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism with moral force. Supports staff of 170 including employees in offices in 6 cities and 26 states.

Provide policy and employee handbook development; employee recruitment at all levels including strategy, initial screening, in-person interviewing, hiring recommendations, and reference checks; employee relations including investigations related to employee/supervisor conflict and harassment and performance planning and evaluation coaching for supervisors. Clients include the Theater Development Fund, the Mark Morris Dance Group, Lighting Design Group, The Tectonic Theater Project, DCM Telemarketing and Telefundraising, Landair Project Resources and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Responsible for the Human Resources function at a fast-paced not-for- profit performing arts center that employs 180 full time salaried employees and 500 seasonal employeesOversees Payroll Administrator, Human Resources Manager and Human Resources Assistant;Oversees benefit administration; Ensures legal compliance on the federal, state and city level; engaged and work closely with pro-bono employment counsel from a large, nationally known firm;Administers compensation; worked with an outside Human Resources consultant on the creation, implementation and rollout of a salary leveling system; Created all job descriptions and recruitment ads where none had existed; Oversees administrative recruitment and handles management and production recruitment in a growing, fast paced, quick turnaround environment;Handles employee relations with all levels of staff; introduced concept of progressive discipline;Worked closely with Organizational Development consultant on the creation of an annual performance management process; currently teach and advise on the process for 50+ managers, oversee tracking; Rewrote employee handbook and wrote concise benefit summary;Coordinate attorney led harassment training; work with OD Consultant on introduction of performance management to entire staff; Serve on OD, Intranet, Emergency Preparedness and Work Life Balance Committees;Researched, created and rolled out a revised vacation plan as a Paid Time Off (PTO) plan;Oversees all workers compensation reporting (100+ injury reports per year);Oversaw transition from paper based time keeping system to ADP’s Time and Attendance software;
