Michael is a Strategic Advisor to UrbanLogiq, and a Founding Partner and Board Member of Alder Bay Equity Partners.From 2017 to 2024, Michael served as the MLA for Vancouver-Langara. He has also served as the Shadow Minister for Attorney General, and Indigenous Relations & Reconciliation, the Official Opposition Critic for Transportation, Infrastructure and TransLink, the Official Opposition Critic for Attorney General, the Parliamentary Secretary for Affordable Housing, and as the Deputy Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders and Private Bills and as a member of the Select Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and the Select Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives.Prior to his election, Michael was a business lawyer and partner with Lawson Lundell LLP. He advised public and private companies regarding mergers and acquisitions, financings, restructurings and general corporate law matters. Michael has represented and worked with clients in a broad range of transactions, including public and private financings of equity and debt, acquisitions and divestitures, arrangements, takeover bids and corporate reorganizations.Michael also advised public company clients and their boards of directors on corporate governance, directors’ duties and responsibilities and securities regulatory compliance. In addition, he acted as counsel to special committees of boards of directors in related party transactions and other corporate transactions. Michael was the co-lead of the Corporate Governance Group. He was also previously the head of the Business Services Group at Lawson Lundell.Michael served on secondment as the Acting Corporate Secretary to BC Hydro and as the Acting General Counsel to Powertech. Prior to obtaining his law degree, Michael worked, in Vancouver and Ottawa from 1990 to 1993, as a Special Assistant to the Right Honourable Kim Campbell when she served as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General and subsequently as the Minister of National Defence and Minister of Veterans Affairs.
