● Lead postdoctoral researcher on a project to create the first ever method to activate individual nerve cells in the brain of a freely moving animal. This involved substantial optimisation of existing technologies and development of an entirely new procedure● First person to demonstrate that functional synthetic compounds could be incorporated into a worm using a type of genetic coding with a greater number of DNA bases than commonly found in worms● Gained some experience in using Python for web scraping and data handling, and extensive use of the MacOS operating system and some basic bash shell operations● Teaching roles and conference talks gave me experience in tailoring communication to a non-specialist audience

● Returned to family business for two seasons.
