Having had a passion for eliminating food waste, I landed on this role while going through a social enterprise start-up accelerator programme. I was working on the problem of food wastage in a local context. Cultivate Christchurch, through Bailey Peryman, created this idea of collecting food waste around the city and feed it back to the soil food web. He needed someone who could take on the idea and drive it forward and create a business case for it. As the current Managing Director, my responsibilities include overseeing the business and ensuring it is keeping true to its vision as well as working to drive it towards financial sustainability. Specific tasks include conducting sales, managing relationships with customers and partners, as well as liaising with Cultivate Christchurch Ltd, who's acting as our parent company.

I was joined the team as part of the new management to hopefully revitalise the establishment. I worked weekends as a chef, ensuring that quality food is available to the diners. Job responsibilities also included ordering and managing food stock as well as liaising with the other chefs to ensure the kitchen is well equipped at all times. Unfortunately the job was cut short when a change of management wasn't enough to bring the establishment back to life resulting in financial losses and the places eventually closed down.

As a kitchen porter my responsibilities included ensuring the chefs had the utensils they require to do their job, general cleaning duties in the kitchen, washing the dishes, as well as prep jobs for the chefs. On some occasions, I was slotted in to work as the bar snacks chef in-charge of sending out food from the bar snacks menu.
