Assisted the Logistics Convener in organising a ball with a budget of £52,000. Had to complete risk assesments, as well as laising with various companies to ensure the ball had food vendors, security, insurance, first aiders, bar service and funishings. Helped manage the budget by invoicing and setting contracts with these companies.

Catwalk is a student run fashion show affiliated with St Andrews University which raises funds for good causes, donating over £15,000 annually. This role allows me to put the theory of my studies into practice. As Head of the Logistics team it is my responsibility to ensure all departments work together seamlessly and that budgets are adhered to. I also undertake the risk assessments for activities related to the show.

I decided to push the boat out this summer and try something completely new, making the decision to take to the high seas. Before setting off I needed to undertake some training and now have my STCW certificates. I am now proficient in basic sea survival, first aid and firefighting!I served aboard two passenger vessels cruising to Shetland and Orkney. I worked with a crew of 40 as a passenger services assistant. As well as living onboard the ship for the duration, I spent time in all departments: the Galley (that is kitchen to all you landlubbers), the Crew Mess, the self service cafe, the Bar, (can now mix a mean cocktail), the Shop and the First Class lounge. I also assisted in embarking passengers and housekeeping tasks. There is a large focus on safety and I participated in the weekly drills for abandon ship, bombs and collision. Not quite Below Deck, but it was a great experience and I learned many new skills along with learning for the first time how to live in harmony with others (a real test for an only child)!
