As the Digital Science Producer at Technology Networks I work across all digital outlets, creating high-quality and engaging content for Technology Networks and Analytical Cannabis' clients. My work typically takes the form of podcasts, video series, animated videos, webinars, interviews, digital magazines and Teach Me in 10's. I excel in guest research sourcing and organising, developing, scripting, filming, presenting and editing. Clients I have worked with include, Agilent Technologies , Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, Eppendorf, SCIEX, ThermoFisher Scientific and Roche Diagnostics - to name but a few!I have covered many scientific topics from Psychedelics and Cannabis to COVID-19, Proteomics Analysis, Virtual Reality and Cancer. I headed up the Research Communications and Engagement team ensuring that all research funded by the charity was communicated effectively to patients, funders, researchers, staff, major donors and the general public. To do so, I arranged and managed all science communication events, public speaking opportunities for myself and other staff members, video communications internally and externally, as well as the creation of newsletters, creating content and schedules for the website and social channels and assisting with the quarterly charity magazine. I worked closely with the Pint of Science team on many engagement opportunities and brought exciting new collaboration to the charity. I developed new ideas and projects and created new relationships with scientists across the renal sector aswell as managing, maintaining and nurturing relationships with all existing and new researchers. I oversaw the grant process for Kidney Research UK and was also a key figure in training teams across the charity and arranging scientific interviews and outreach opportunities.

Further to the Research Comms and engagement role whereby I built connections, trust and shared understanding with patients, their families, colleagues and volunteers, partner organisations and others. I generated active support to advance care for people living with Kidney Disease. I performed internal management of trials including PIVOTAL, ASSIST-CKD and NURTuRE. Secretariat to the UK Kidney Research Consortium. I was responsible for the Researchfish submission, to capture data from Kidney Research UK-funded researchers to analyse the impact that the research funded by Kidney Research UK has, as well as seeing researchers through the grant-giving process, from application to award.

Spent time interning with the White Stuff editorial and creative design team. This involved helping to create and inspire content in their winter magazine, sourcing models, assisting with shoots and photo/video editing. This internship really helped to fine-tune my creative skills.

After gaining my HCPC qualification, I worked as a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist in Blood Bank. During my time here I became the lead for training on the TLA systems which had only just been implemented (showing my age!). I worked shifts and was often solely responsible for Blood Bank and Haematology during the nights.

My internship with the Royal Derby Hospital allowed me to complete my IBMS portfolio. During my internship I was able to rotate throughout the hospital and laboratory, this included internal rotation throughout bloodbank, MLA, Biochemistry, Pathology as well as rotation around the hospital in ICU, renal wards, and other specialities.

My translational medicine placement at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust was incredible, I rotated through many divisions. I was able to shadow many varied clinic sessions, 4x surgical procedures from start to end (including the da Vinci Surgical System at work!) medicinal laboratory work, viewing ICU procedures and routines as well as shadowing doctors on ward rounds. I was also shadow to heartbreaking clinic sessions where bad news was being broken to patients, and the mental help support offered to them afterwards.

I compelted a study which investigates the expression of Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 9 (TNFRF9). With particular focus on the expression within cancer stem cells from the Michigan Cancer Foundation Breast cancer Cell Line 7 (MCF-7). The generation of mammospheres and adherent cell cultures were formed via sphere formation assays, RNA extraction, cDNA conversion and RT-PCR. Upon analysis of RT-PCR i observed that TNFRSF9 expresses preferentially in adherent cell line cultures. The results I collected prove anomalous from previous literature sources and provide exciting insight into development of upcoming cancer therapies.
