Centre For Agroecology, Water And Resilience (Formerly Cafs)
Research duties involve project work and carrying out innovative, collaborative research within the centre's theme of Community Self Organisation for Resilience. This involves exploring the social, economic and cultural dimensions of people's relationships with food production and consumption systems. My research interests involve 'short' food chains, local food systems and the role digital media has in (re)connecting producers and consumers within these types of systems.Other areas of CAWR research includes Stabilisation Agriculture, Agroecological Technologies and Policies and Institutions for Resilience.I currently supervise Geography (BA/BSc Hons) undergraduate students; providing support and guidance on their final year projects.
Coventry, United Kingdom
My PhD research interests concern Short Food Chains, and how they can assist in achieving and promoting sustainable livelihoods amongst small-scale food producers. My research is based on a range of qualitative methods and is a comparative project; contrasting such food chains in the East of England and in The Gambia, West Africa. The aim of the research is to better understand the livelihood strategies of food producers, and how Short Food Chains function in contrasting contexts of food production. The PhD thesis was submitted in September 2014, and I graduated in 2015.PhD conference presentations: - Coventry University Business, Environment and Society Annual Faculty Conference 2011 and 2013- Royal Geographical Society Annual Conference 2011, London- Royal Geographical Society Postgraduate Forum Conference, Nottingham University 2012 and Birmingham University 2013- Place-to-Plate Conference, Cardiff University, 2012- The XIII World Congress of Rural Sociology, Lisbon University, Portugal 2012Supervisory team: Dr. Moya Kneafsey, Professor Hazel Barrett and Dr. Marion Maclellan (all based at Coventry University)
