I am a researcher, educator, and translator who collaborates with faculty and staff in the two different public university systems in Haiti. I am a Digital Research Fellow at the Université Publique des Nippes (UPNip) in Miragôane, Haiti and reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. I also co-advise a small number of master's students in the social anthropology program at the Faculté d'Éthnologie, Université d'État d'Haïti (FE-UEH). My current curriculum development project is an online information, media, and digital literacy course and practicum with staff and faculty at UPNip.Since March 2023, I have served as a pro-bono country of origin expert in removal proceedings and affirmative asylum cases regarding sociopolitical conditions and gender-based violence in Haiti. My current position at UPNip builds on the work I did as the 2016-2017 lecturing/research Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar in Haiti for the grant "Rebuilding Higher Education." I taught graduate-level courses in visual anthropology and social theory at FE-UEH; facilitated workshops on research with undergraduate students at the UPNip; curated a guest speaker series; and conducted research on post-earthquake international aid to public higher education in Haiti. My 2015 dissertation is based on my field research in Haiti from 2008 to 2010 on women's community activism and participation in popular politics in Port-au-Prince.I consider Haiti my second home and am fortunate to have reconnected with people there and become part of new networks of friendship, scholarship, and activism. I lived in Haiti during my childhood (1983-1985) and first returned as part of a university student delegation in 1995. I been returning there for short visits and longer stays over the last few decades.Previous to my career as a sociocultural anthropologist, I worked in direct service provision and research in public health and HIV prevention in the San Francisco Bay Area.
