I’m a first-generation college graduate of Peruvian descent who, in the eyes of her working-class family, took a significant risk pursuing a career in nonprofit arts. In high school, I was inspired by artists who used their platforms to push back on societal injustices and shaped the narratives and cultures of their time. Since then, I have dedicated my career to uplifting and funding artists, especially artists of color, working at the intersection of social change and equity. From 2017 to 2022, I was the Program Director at United States Artists, where I led the USA Fellowship program and collaborated on Artist Relief, a $23.4 million emergency cash relief program for artists in dire need due to COVID-19. I was most recently a Program Officer at Builders Initiative, managing a philanthropic portfolio of artist-run organizations, creative entrepreneurship accelerators, and capacity-building initiatives for cultural workers in the Chicagoland region. Working on the COVID-19 cash relief program inspired me to pursue an MBA at Chicago Booth, where I set out to strengthen my financial skills, deepen my economic thinking, and develop a structured and data-driven approach to solving big problems. I joined the MBA program as a Neubauer Civic Scholar, a merit-based 100% scholarship and cohort program for nonprofit leaders. Being part of this program has allowed me to learn about other issue areas from my peers and deepen my curiosity about a diversity of impact levers that could improve efficacy and efficiency in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. Now, I'm a Consultant at The Bridgespan Group, where we work to build a better world by strengthening the ability of mission-driven organizations and philanthropists to achieve breakthrough results in addressing society’s most important challenges and opportunities.
