As part of my fellowship, I spent the spring semester conducting an independent study on persons with disabilities in the labor market with a focus on human rights violations and the harmful yet legal use of sub minimum wages. The Gallatin fellowship grant allowed me to travel nationally to conduct my research, work with heads in disability advocacy, and then use that knowledge in creating a summer seminar. I Led a $15,000 weekend seminar on disability labor rights for 30 university students, organized and budgeted finances to secure a venue, supplies, transportation, and housing, and acquired grants from multiple funding agencies. I created the training materials as well as coordinated the speakers and facilitation of this seminar which culminated in students creating anti subminimum wage campaigns in their communities.
