    Project lead of the University of Sheffield's co-curricular activity (CCA) team: iGEM Sheffield. Liaised with faculty staff and finance officers to raise over £40,000 in funds each year, gained resources from sponsors and located laboratory and research space. Oversaw and supported an interdisciplinary engineering team of 18 in developing new synthetic biology technologies, compiling research and creating presentations to showcase at annual iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris.iGEM Sheffield's 2022 project, rEvolver, was awarded a gold medal in the Foundational Advance category for our work on a directed evolution plasmid system. This system can perform in vivo, continuous directed evolution of a particular gene of interest. Additionally, the team developed a one-of-a-kind toroidal turbidostat bioreactor capable of culturing prokaryotes. This bioreactor was nominated for the Best Hardware standalone award at the iGEM 2022 Grand Jamboree.iGEM 2023 saw Sheffield succeed once again, with us taking home silver in the Foundational Advance category for our work on characterising phage-derived growth-slowing genes, and then adapting them to be in vivo inducible growth-rate controllers. To complement this work, we developed a multiplexed bioreactor purpose-built for growth characterisation under dynamic conditions. Our work on this bioreactor resulted in us being nominated for the Best Model standalone prize!
