Aaniin | Hello! Paula MacDonald (She/Her) is a Saulteaux-Cree Deaf woman from Pasqua First Nation, now residing in Ottawa. Her primary language is American Sign Language (ASL).A motivated Indigenous professional with experience in research, analysis, and training development, Paula is building her skills in policy analysis, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement. She pairs these with great communication and planning abilities. With degrees in Indigenous and Canadian Studies (2023) and Computer Aided Drafting (2018), Paula is seeking junior roles where she can continue learning and contributing to policy, community development, engineering design, or related fields.Paula volunteers actively with organizations representing Deaf people, particularly the Indigenous Deaf community. She is a former national youth representative for Deaf Youth Canada and the Canadian Association of the Deaf. Locally, she serves as the president of the National Capital Association for the Deaf and regularly engages with both local and national Deaf communities.As an ASL translator for work and personal projects, Paula connects with others on social media to discuss important and emerging issues affecting the Deaf community.She frequently joins talking circles to amplify the advocacy voices of Deaf youth with organizations such as the Native Women’s Association of Canada, the Assembly of First Nations, Indigenous Youth Roots, Canada Post, Government of Canada, and more.Paula is passionate about supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth as an Indigenous youth advocate.
