About Mackenzie Spence
I’m a collaborative and detail-oriented Biomechanical Design Engineer who is enthusiastic about new product innovation and human-centered design. I am driven by my desire to help others and improve lives through the development of medical devices and assistive technology.I graduated from Queen’s University in April 2020 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the biomechanical option. I took the time to explore several areas of the mechanical engineering industry, from the energy sector to education and academia, and figure out what sparked excitement for me. I also spent my first two years of university in a Life Sciences Major before transferring into Engineering, which contributed to my fascination in human health and wellness. I successfully completed my fourth-year capstone design project, a discreet breast pump for busy mothers, and received the George Christie Design Award. In industry, the excitement to learn remains with me.Through my past positions, several design teams, and projects, I’ve grown my expertise in concept development, CAD modelling, design for manufacturing, and project management. I am a fast learner and can quickly adapt to new challenges. I really enjoy problem solving and using my organizational ability to increase efficiency wherever possible.Outside of school and work, I have volunteered with WiSE, Women in Science and Engineering, working predominantly with the club’s outreach programs that encourage and support young women wanting to pursue STEM fields. What I’ve found to be most rewarding in my career, so far, has been seeing the direct benefits of someone using a medical or assistive device that I created. Please feel free to connect with me here on LinkedIn or you can email me at mackenziespence@shaw.ca, I’d love to chat!
