I am a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in the Haslam College of Business where I am working towards a business degree in Business Analytics with a concentration in International Business. I have always been an activator–one to take control of any situation–and being strategic in the way I do so is a significant strength of mine. In my previous roles of coach and camp counselor, after witnessing a trend in employee confusion and a lack of organization, I created intentional schedules and detailed guidelines of activities for my coworkers to follow. Ultimately, by doing so, I created more seamless transitions and limited the time my bosses took to train employees through the use of my activity and skill guide. Relationship building and making others feel valued individually is another strength of mine. As a result of my intentional conversations with the children I worked with, the gym I worked for was able to reach full capacity and increase retention because parents were regularly calling to transfer their child into my classes. When I began having to waitlist customers I was then chosen to train new employees in leading by example as my bosses instructed new employees to simply watch the way I interact with others.I am interested in learning how to work and succeed more efficiently and effectively–whether that be through acting to appeal to social trends, understanding how to sell to different cultures, or by enforcing the importance of above and beyond customer service among employees. My experiences working as a lead coach, cashier in an environment which stressed and taught customer relations, and my time in Israel spreading the Word of God has prepared me with the knowledge to pursue a career in business and law. For example, while in Israel I witnessed a terrorist attack and in my observations and conversations with those who lived there I noticed the people there weren’t scared because this was normal to them. I realized that not everyone lives by the same fears and others have different opportunities, which means as a leader one must appeal and acknowledge the differences of employees and customers. Additionally, in working with children I found that some were neglected emotionally and I learned to provide a feeling of value and safety for these children, teaching me to be a voice for those who may not be able to stand up for themselves. My goal after college is to use the skills and knowledge I learn from my college education to attend law school.
