Part of the Arcadis Highways and HS2 team. My main focus was working on the conceptual design of HS2 and the maintenance access items. This included creating and critically analysing drawings and reports, checking they conformed with the HS2 standards and assumptions. I had to meet with teams from different offices to compare and agree on consistent layouts for the HS2 drawings, which were produced on AutoCAD. From this I learned the importance of communication and gave me an invaluable insight to the industry. I also produced Highway Design Statements, learned how to use new software such as Autodesk Vehicle Tracking and gained some resource and programme management experience. Finally, I completed three weeks on the M6 junction upgrade site, which included passing my HS&E test. I learned about site health and safety, completed pavement material and road stud approval requests and worked with the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works to find different requirements of the materials to check is the sample conformed.

Worked for RNP Associates completing two summer internships in 2016 and 2017. Undertook consultancy work which specialised in temporary works design, focusing on structural and geotechnical engineering. I spent my time here reviewing temporary work designs, completing drawings on AutoCAD and doing complexed calculations for a variety of materials such as steel and concrete. I created an automated document for the design of timber headings on TEDDS, improving my knowledge of Eurocodes and timber.
