Advisor: Dr. Scott Steinschneider- Exploring questions related to analyzing the variability and predictability of hydroclimate processes with colleagues in the Steinschneider Research Group.- Quantifying uncertainty in hydroclimate forecasts at various spatial and temporal scales and collaborating with water management professionals to facilitate robust data-driven decision-making.

Advisors: Dr. Mark Abkowitz and Dr. David Furbish- Explored deterministic versus probabilistic descriptions of bed load sediment transport with an emphasis on the importance and implications of decisions related to temporal and spatial scales of measurement.- Leveraged Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data to monitor exposure of transportation networks to flood hazards; created a tool in Google Earth Engine to examine the past seven years of Sentinel-1 C-band SAR data to assess the temporal and spatial patterns of flooding along the Mississippi River.- Developed an agent-based model (ABM) to explore the efficacy of various flood adaptation techniques and thresholds that exist in relation to permanent climate-driven migration.- Utilized computer vision and deep learning algorithms to create an automated tool for analyzing video data to characterize travel through a region of interest; product developed for stakeholders seeking to use multimodal traffic volume counts to inform policymaking.- Analyzed vehicle crash datasets and cultivated a Microsoft Power BI interactive report for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to enhance their ability to integrate data analysis into decision-making process for safety-related projects.- Quantified current carbon dioxide emissions for the inland waterway transportation sector and examined historic and projected market trends in relation to potential decarbonization pathways for the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).- Related fellowships: NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Fellow (2022-2027); Peter G. - Examined mechanisms and associated rates of groundwater recharge in drylands through a 10-month NSF-funded program, including five weeks of field work in Morocco.- Engaged in open dialogue about water-related resources, practices, and adaptation measures with Moroccan researchers, students, farmers, staff of government agencies and engineering firms, and members of several different communities.- Deployed vertical arrays of thermistors to measure rates of infiltration beneath ephemeral stream channels in the Tensift and Souss basins.- Sampled groundwater and surface water for solute and stable-isotope analyses from different basins throughout Morocco; measured water levels in a series of wells to estimate water table height for specific communities; discussed options for water treatment and management practices with community leaders.- Attended the First International Congress on Natural Resources: Research & Strategies for a Sustainable Development in Fez and Meknes, Morocco.

- Attended the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and presented in a side event titled, "Youth Environmental Alliance in Higher Education: Climate leadership across generations."- Shared experiences through blog posts on water-related topics discussed in formal negotiations and informal dialogues.- Participated in two international press conferences regarding the role and perspectives of youth on climate-change-related issues at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland.

- Collaborated with a diverse group of scientists from a wide array of disciplines in the international, inter-institutional, NSF-funded YEAH Network to tackle complex global environmental problems, and engage youth in climate advocacy.- Created a survey to determine student perspectives and knowledge about climate change and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals; currently serving as PI on the IRB approved research project.- Analyzed survey responses to gauge student attitudes towards climate change and the related role of higher education.- Developed a series of educational modules related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.- Moderated a section of the YEAH Conference on Environmental Conservation, Sustainability, and Equity in April, 2021.

- Conducted geospatial- and field-based research to update the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) for a selection of 6th level watersheds in the Huron-Manistee National Forests- Modeled streamlines using LiDAR-derived digital elevation models (DEMs) and a suite of hydrology modeling tools and scripts via ArcGIS Pro; documented modeling methods and generated metadata for GIS products developed- Field verified existing NHD and LiDAR-modeled streamlines (e.g. spring source and sink locations) using an iPad and ArcCollector; then refined and updated modeled streamlines through manual editing in ArcPro- Produced deliverables to facilitate data-driven decisions regarding timber harvest mitigation efforts to protect riparian environments, and road-stream crossing projects to improve aquatic organism passage.

- Leveraged NASA Earth observations to examine the impact of wildfire on the hydrological functions of Gila National Forest, NM, particularly the relationship between increases in wildfire disturbance at the watershed-scale and increases in stream flashiness- Established a methodology to evaluate post-fire vegetation recovery using Landsat 5/7/8 surface reflectance near-infrared and shortwave infrared band data to calculate and graph Normalized Burn Ratio, a vegetation health metric, over time in R- Developed code in Google Earth Engine to acquire GPM-IMERG precipitation data summed daily for a twenty-year period- Engaged with end-users at Gila National Forest to identify key concerns; tailored research and deliverables accordingly

- Coordinated staff schedules, facilitated conflict resolutions, interviewed potential new employees, attended to customer service matters.- Hand-pollinated, harvested, and sold dragon fruit; planted, watered, and tended to banana and pineapple crops.- Led over a dozen guided farm tours per week; educated visitors on principles of organic farming and the creative solutions used to maximize crop productivity; facilitated conversations regarding responsible land stewardship.- Eco-tour program staff - managed zipline and aquaball activities; trained new staff members on safety procedures.

-Collaborated with the VECTOR research group in the Civil Engineering department to assess community resilience of rural counties in Western Tennessee.-Utilized Hazus Flood Model to run various flood hazard scenarios to anticipate potential affected areas and the resulting damage and losses.-Analyzed and presented data from Hazus and several other databases using ArcGIS.

-Participated in a month-long 4-credit field course focused on exploring the volcanic, glacial, and tectonic features of New Zealand.

- Collected data on pumice samples from the Bishop Tuff super eruption using a scanning electron microscope (SEM).- Collaborated with other members of the MESSY research group in the Earth and Environmental Science department.- Accompanied research group on a five day expedition to California and Nevada to study the Searchlight Pluton and the Old Woman Mountains.
