About Madeline Smith

Madeline Smith is a Managing Director, MIT Scandinavia at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She possess expertise in event planning, intercultural communication, leadership, international education, social networking and 2 more skills. Colleagues describe her as "Always a joy to have to do with Madeline - she is efficient, pleasant and fun, all at the same time! As faculty at DIS, I would sometimes ask Madeline for ideas or advice and always got valuable feedback." and "DIS – Danish Institute for Study Abroad Vestergade 7 DK-1456 Copenhagen K JB/February 2013 Letter of Recommendation To whom it may concern, I know Madeline Smith from her study abroad program at DIS, Danish Institute for Study Abroad, in spring 2010. Madeline has been very active participating in my course, “European Politics: The European Union” – the core course in the European Politics Program. She made a brilliant final research paper on “Turkey and the EU: A Valuable Ally or a Dangerous Burden?” Both in this paper, in her participation in study tours, and in discussions in class he showed a bright intellectual ability, and she was able to conduct research in a very important political issue. She has demonstrated fine capacity for analytical thinking and professional skill. She has an open personal character and a good sense of humour. This was later on confirmed when she worked as an intern in the European Politics Program at DIS in fall 2011, spring 2012 and fall 2012. She then did a brilliant job both in the day-to-day work with the courses, and in the planning of and her participation in the different study tours. She also was the key person for organizing the final Simulation Game in the European Politics course where the students had to play a meeting in the European Council. In all this she demonstrated an excellent capacity for running the program and for guiding and engaging the students. She was really very efficient and a very strong capacity working on her own. Fine discipline and lots of energy and academic initiatives. She really was a positive asset for the DIS in this respect – also as a fine and respected colleague. At the same time she was a good inspiration for the students. The students actually loved her which was clearly indicated in the final evaluation of the courses. Consequently, I have no doubts to give Madeline my best and strongest recommendation. Jacob Buksti Professor and senior instructor at DIS, Danish Institute for Study Abroad Former Member of the Danish Parliament & Former Minister for Transport in the Danish Government Former Professor in Political Science, University of Aarhus"
