I was able to assist key clients including:Network Rail (NR) The UKs rail network asset maintainer and operator wanted to replace existing practices for understanding and reporting issues affecting senior leaders and operations of the network. NR sought to reduce cost, improve the potency of insights and increase the speed of reporting. Key achievements included:• I developed decision support software that could be acted on in near real-time using cutting-edge semantic analysis of digital text from corporate emails, to identify the real substance of what was being communicated.• I resolved operational and political concerns to gain the required confidence and co-ordinated assistance from other departments.• I created a customised system saving £150k per year in reduced operational costs, with significant strategic benefits.The Staffordshire Alliance (SA) sought to improve their ‘tie in’ works (moving short sections of railway track). Due to severe financial penalties should the works which required weekend long shutdowns over run. Key achievements included:• I designed a new tool for a JCB Road-Railer and developed with SA’s project team and external organisations. This was estimated to be seven times faster, significantly safer and more versatile than the existing method.• I established a committed partnership with the capability and experience to manufacture the tool.• I obtained funding for the prototyping and testing from Network Rail.
