For the last 3 years, I have been leading Payments engineering team. Through a highly engaged, diverse team, we have worked across First Party, 3rd Party flow and Financial recon. Across all our verticals, we have achieved a highly agile, secure, cloud-scale, reliable system. We have optimized our system to automatically detect and respond to outages in external systems which allows us to achieve 99.99% availability while aggregating systems with 99% up time. We have migrated the services that rely on us forward from our original discrete-based service to leverage cloud infrastructure through both compatibility layers and enhanced REST API sets. Our engineering teams update their component services daily. We have established deep isolation between components of the system to ensure a secure system. Monitoring allows quick action where needed. Business operations team has self-serve systems to support external payment processor connections. New optimizations are flighted through volume control. In first party, we have a well established optimization cycle to draw down the cost of external payment processing. Our system redundancy also produces competition between the external processors we rely on. We are establishing schema and ux flexibility through the stack that allows new payment mechanisms to be added across all stores that rely on our system without changes above our layer. Our 3rd party system brings payment capabilities into phones, services and apps where Microsoft is not the seller. We have multiple strategies ranging from tap-to-pay to external MTL processors that allow progress in this highly regulated space. Our recon system verifies cash flow in response to online payment gestures. This provides a daily view of the AR pipeline with visibility at company, country, currency, MID and down to individual transaction. Transactional details are propagaged to SAP as the system of Audit scope.
