In 2011 I went to Anthem College in Beaverton, Oregon and attended their Pharmacy Technician program. At school I learned retail, hospital, and long term care pharmacy laws and regulations. HIPAA laws, medical terminology, proper medication dosages and mathematical formulas. Aseptic techniques, for making intravenous solutions.I did my externship at Rite Aid Pharmacy in St. Helens, Oregon, they also hired me as an employee during the externship. I then went on to work at Central Drugs Pharmacy in Portland, Oregon in 2013. I worked with the 340b and Ramsell program for specialty medications for HIV and Hep C. With COB we would help low income patients afford their specialty medications. Working with the doctors offices to obtain prior authorizations, and the Patient Assistance Foundation. My main duties as a CPhT; assisting the pharmacist in data entry, filling prescriptions including adherence packages; salad packs and bubble packs, insurance billing, managing phone calls, patient refill reminders, cycle filling medications to help patients with adherence, filing paper prescriptions hard copies, and assisting in audits. Central Drugs sold to CVS Specialty in 2018. I was able to keep my position through the rehiring process. With CVS Specialty my duties remained the same, but I did more insurance audits for the pharmacist. I moved to Alaska in 2020 where I was hired by SEARHC, and made Lead Technician. As Lead tech I was responsible for overseeing other technicians in their duties and helped with training, oversaw all daily and monthly operations were completed, under the supervision of the pharmacist. I did monthly pharmacy statistics for the financial department, and monthly patient invoices. Inventory management, including ordering medications from different wholesale accounts, outdated returns, and recalls. Cycle fill patient’s medications, and reminder calls. Cash register management; including daily deposit logs, maintaining adequate back up change. And other various deposits. Filed documents, invoices, and statements as required by law. Before working in pharmacy I had a few customer service jobs, I also worked as a deli manager for 2 years, that helped immensely when beginning this career. I love working with people and helping patients out in need. If there is a way to save patients money, I work hard to find it. I really enjoy calling insurance companies and following up on how to bill a claim when there is an issue.
